Paul Simon accepts his partial hearing loss – CNN

CNN –

It’s only been a few months since legendary singer Paul Simon went public with his hearing loss, and now he says he’s still getting used to it.

According to , Simon, who has lost most of his hearing in his left ear, addressed the challenge during a question-and-answer session following the screening of the documentary “In Restless Dreams: The Music of Paul Simon” at Toronto International Film Festival.

“I haven’t fully accepted it yet, but I’m starting,” Simon reportedly said of his hearing loss while on stage with the film’s director, Alex Gibney.

In an interview with The Times UK in May, Simon initially explained that he had become largely deaf in his left ear.

“All of a sudden I lost most of the hearing in my left ear, and no one has an explanation for it,” he said at the time. “So everything became more difficult. My reaction to this was frustration and anger; Not quite mad yet because I thought it would pass, it would fix itself.”

So it was a challenge to perform live.

While in Toronto, Simon said he still plays guitar daily.

“It is the instrument that allows me to express myself creatively. But it’s also the place I go for solace. When I feel like… ‘whatever’. That’s why it’s a very important thing for me,” he said. “You know, when you have a disability, something happens to you that changes your consciousness or changes the way you approach life.”

Simon first rose to musical fame in the 1960s as one half of the duo Simon & Garfunkel before launching an award-winning solo career.
