Visibly moved, the Parti Québécois leader said he was deeply touched by the music of Karl Tremblay and the Cowboys Fringants.
“It is a group that has been able to connect with the soul of Quebecers in a completely incredible and unusual way,” he explained. “I am a Cowboys Fringants fan and always will be.”
Paul St-Pierre Plamondon particularly praised the group’s “unrelenting loyalty to Quebec.”
“In a crazy world, Cowboys Fringants were like a candle lit in a dark room,” he said.
The PQ leader spoke in particular about the song “Tant qu’on aura de l’amour”, his favorite song by Cowboys Fringants.
“It’s the song that says that as long as we have a roof and four walls and can supply our world with fresh water and clean air, we will be happy in Quebec,” he said.
Last May, the elected representatives of the National Assembly paid tribute to the Cowboys Fringants and Paul St-Pierre Plamondon still remembers his speech and his meeting with his idols.
“I told them that even the idiots in tuxedos could listen to their songs and feel good,” he says.
“The soundtrack of my youth”
Québec Solidaire co-spokesman Gabriel Nadeau-Dubois also spoke of the great place the group holds in his heart.
“The voice of Karl Tremblay is the soundtrack of my youth, it is also the soundtrack of the beginning of my social engagement as a young activist who wanted and still wants to change the world,” he says.
The QS parliamentary leader believes Cowboys Fringants and Karl Tremblay shattered his youth and that of many young adults in Quebec.
“I think it is the first time for people of my generation that we have lost an artist of this magnitude,” emphasizes the politician.
