Pediatricians warn of shootings against children in Uruguay

According to specialist Javier Prego, not only is the number of minors injured by gunfire increasing, but also the number of cases of deliberate aggression.

He assured that years ago, accidental injuries were prevalent, especially in the home due to the improper use of firearms by infants and teenagers.

The scenario has changed, he said in statements to Channel Cinco.

Currently, gunshot wounds to children occur “outside the home, on public streets, in an often provoked, premeditated” and violent scenario.

Prego explained that “in recent weeks we have suffered much more serious injuries due to the deaths of minors, which represents a worrying situation both for society and for pediatricians who have to care for children.”
