The President of the Republic, Pedro Castillo, began his duties in Los Angeles, USA, as part of the IX. America Summit was inaugurated last night and in whose ceremony you intervened as the sole leader, along with his American counterpart Joe Biden. This participation is a decision of the host country, linked to the fact that the previous summit took place in Lima in 2018.
In his speech, Castillo highlighted the Lima commitment, realized at the VIII Summit, whose theme was the fight against corruption, precisely the alleged crime being investigated in its immediate vicinity in Peru.

“We have identified one of the most pervasive, persistent and damaging problems in the hemisphere and the world as a key concern: corruption. Its text reflected 57 measures that have since guided our countries’ efforts to combat and eradicate it and strengthen democratic governance and human rights protection,” he said.
With this in mind, he welcomed the fact that many of these concerns are reflected in the themes of the current event. “Hoping that the success of this IX. Summit will be a major achievement for our continent and Peru will be instrumental in helping to achieve that goal. America for Americans,” he concluded.
Since yesterday morning, Castillo has been arranging various meetings. The first was with his counterpart from Colombia, Ivan Herzog, with which the Presidency says they agreed on the importance of prioritizing the protection of the Amazon through action to combat deforestation and illegal mining. At the bilateral meeting, Castillo invited his Colombian counterpart to visit Peru, where Duque expressed his willingness to do so to celebrate the bicentenary of diplomatic ties and hold a new edition of the binational cabinet.
He later attended a ministerial meeting of the Summit Implementation Review Group and later with Google officials. At that meeting, he emphasized the importance of using technology to bridge social gaps and foster more effective digital government.
In the afternoon, in the IV Business Summit of the Americas, after reporting on efforts to stem the ravages of the pandemic, adding that “the food crisis ahead is on top of that”. For this reason, “concerted international action is urgently needed” to bring about change with macroeconomic stability “that guarantees the constitutional order and legal certainty of investments”.
