Rio At the end of the afternoon of this Thursday (22), the body of actor Pedro Paulo Rangel was cremated at the Cemitério da Penitência in Caju, with a ceremony reserved for friends and family, after a wake open to the public at the Theatro Municipal Rio make. The actor died at the age of 74 early Wednesday (21) at the Casa de Saúde São José in the South Zone, where he had been hospitalized since November with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
At the farewell to the artist, which took place between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., names such as Lilia Cabral and her daughter, Giulia Bertolli, Diogo Vilela, Osmar Prado, Maria Padilha, David Pinheiro, among others, could be seen. “I think Pepê is walking the path he wanted. He wanted to walk calmly without suffering and he said goodbye on stage. His last moves were on stage. So this farewell brings comfort to those who stay and also a hope for him well done. And that’s what everyone wants. Pepê was an extraordinary actor, a friend to many people and he will be missed. So thank you for being here after this very sad but definitely very meaningful moment ‘ said Lilia.
“It is very difficult to talk about an actor like Pepê. Not only the actors, but also the audience perceives the quality of his work. He is here in the theater temple and he is veiled in his place. We have to move on. These are difficult times that art goes through,” said Vilela.

Pedro Paulo Rangel was born in Rio in June 1948. His interest in theater began at the age of 11 through a neighbor who was an amateur actor. As a child he was part of the cast of “O Bruxo ea Rainha” where he met Marco Nanini. Later, the two studied at the National Theater Conservatory, which is currently Unirio’s theater school.
He made his first theatrical experiences with the play “Roda Viva” by Chico Buarque, directed by Zé Celso. He made his television debut in 1969 on TV Tupi, starring in the soap opera Super Plá. In 1970 he filmed Toninho On The Rocks at the same station.
The actor made his TV Globo debut in the 1972 soap opera Bicho do Mato. In 1975, Pedro Paulo Rangel made history by appearing in the first male act on Brazilian television with the role of Juca Viana from Gabriela. In the same year he won his first protagonist in the work “O Noviço”, which had only 20 episodes.
At the same time, Pedro Paulo Rangel starred in A Patota, Saramandaia and O Pulo do Gato. He briefly returned to TV Tupi in 1979, starring in the Mário Prata soap opera Dinheiro Vivo. In 1981 he returned to TV Globo, where he worked for years in “Viva o Gordo” and “TV Pirata”.
The return to the series came in 1988 with “Vale Tudo”. Pedro Paulo Rangel has had prominent roles such as Adamastor in Pedra Sobre Pedra (1992), Calixto in O Cravo ea Rosa (2000) and Argemiro Falcão, brother of the villain Bia Falcão, in Belíssima (2005).
He has also contributed to works such as Torre de Babel (1998), Desejo Proibido (2007), Amor Eterno Amor (2012) and the miniseries A Muralha (2000), O Quinto dos Infernos (2000 ). His last work at TV Globo was “O Dentista Mascarado” (2013). His last role on television was that of Imperatriz Leopoldina’s librarian, in the series “Independencias” (2022), on TV Cultura.
Pedro Paulo Rangel spent 20 years fighting the effects of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) caused by smoking. He did not stop acting but left soap operas in 2012. However, the actor continued to do plays and series.
“It absolutely does not prevent me from working. I take medication, I have a routine. I do physical therapy,” he said of the disease in a recent interview.
