The man who hit the husband of the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, in the head with a hammer, should be charged with attempted murder. As the San Francisco Attorney’s Office announced yesterday (local time), formal charges will be brought against the 42-year-old man tomorrow.
The attacker broke into the couple’s San Francisco home on Friday and yelled “Where’s Nancy?” He then hit the politician’s 82-year-old husband, Paul Pelosi, with a hammer to the head, arm and hands. Nancy Pelosi was in Washington at the time of the attack but flew to San Francisco to be with her husband after the attack.
The incident took place just a week and a half before the November 8 elections and stoked fears of political violence ahead of the vote. A good third of the Senate and the entire Chamber of Deputies will be re-elected.
