Penguins are reportedly awaiting a response from Kyle Dubas

Kyle Dubas is reportedly the Pittsburgh Penguins’ first pick for their vacant GM post.

Speaking on Monday’s podcast, 32 Thoughts, Sportsnet network hockey analyst Elliotte Friedman argued that owners of the “pens” are waiting for a response from the former Toronto Maple Leafs GM to move forward.

“As far as I know, the people who work with those who work in Pittsburgh think there’s a very good chance Dubas will take the job,” the reporter also said.

Friedman also named three possible candidates if the 37-year-old Ontario native ever turns down the Pennsylvania club’s offer. They are Mathieu Darche, Steve Greeley and Jason Botterill.

The Penguins are looking for new leaders after firing GM Ron Hextall and chairman Brian Burke last April. Both men were shown the way out after the club missed the playoffs for the first time in 16 seasons, going 40-31-11.

As for Dubas, his contract with the Leafs will not be renewed. His contract officially ends on June 30, he has been Director General of the Queen City Organization since May 2018. Since July 2014 he has worked for the Canadian club.
