The Peruvian team is going through a difficult time in the qualifying matches World Cup 2026 after the 0-1 defeat against Bolivia at the Hernando Siles in La Paz, and with that the questions about Juan Reynoso as the national team’s strategist are growing.
La Blanquirroja is bottom of the table with just one point and without having won a game in the five rounds. Likewise, Peru is the only team that has not scored a goal in the current qualification process.
Unless there is a drastic change in the way all teams operate, Cabezón’s days on the national team’s bench could be numbered, although this would require a strong economic commitment from the team Peruvian Football Association.
If Juan Reynoso and the FPF do not reach an agreement, the organization that governs national football will have to pay for the termination of the coaching contract, which runs until September 2025.
As Líbero learned, Cabezón earns about 1 million 300 thousand dollars a year, for which the association would have to pay the 22 months of employment in the form of a penalty for unilateral dismissal.
Taking into account the remaining term of the former Cruz Azul coach’s contract with Blanquirroja, the remaining amount would therefore correspond to approximately 2 million 400 thousand dollars. It is important to note that this hassle could be avoided if Cabezón decided to resign after the negative results.
At the moment, Reynoso is not thinking about leaving his position as coach of the Peruvian team, which he took over in August 2022 after the phase of Ricardo Gareca.
“My contract covers the entire process and you feel the players every day. I stay calm. I understand people’s anger, but I don’t share their opinion. “Football is made up of these moments and the ones who make the difference are the ones who turn these situations around through work,” the national coach explained at a press conference.
It is recalled that the Peruvian team will face Venezuela this Tuesday, November 21, at 9:00 p.m. (Peruvian time) at the National Stadium.
