Peruvian national team: Jorge Fossati arrives in Lima

Universitario officially announced the departure of Jorge Fossati, who managed in the 2023 season to make the top team champions again after 10 years, and with it the negotiations between the Uruguayan and the Peruvian Football Association to become the next coach of the national team following the departure of Juan Reynoso.

The board of the FPF formed a commission composed of Enrique Dupuy (representative of the footballers), Raúl Lozano (Mannucci) and the president himself Agustín Lozano for the recruitment of the new coach of the Peruvian team, but it was not convened to meet with Pablo Betancourt, the agent of Jorge Fossati. Immediately after learning this in the press, Dupuy decided to resign from the commission because, according to the director himself, “they went beyond the agreements of the board.”

However, this did not stop negotiations from continuing. There are already agreements today and everything could be clarified in the next few hours.

Fossati spoke out for the first time after confirming his departure from the current champion League 1. And important hours are lived in La Videna.

The 71-year-old coach stated that he had not yet reached an agreement with the Peruvian Football Federation (FPF) to become the new coach of the Bicolor. Nevertheless, he decided to leave Universitario to facilitate negotiations with the new coach.

“Nothing has been signed with the Peruvian team yet. My decision (to leave the Universitario de Deportes) was made out of respect and love for the fan and the club. “I leave their hands free so that they can organize their time,” said Fossati in a dialogue with “Radio U”. The truth is that the coach could be announced in the next few hours as the new coach of Peru, which finished last in the first six rounds of South American qualifying with Juan Reynoso as coach.

I don't think (he'll come this weekend), the previous coach's agreement was only signed yesterday and they want (to the press) everything to be sorted out today. The FPF operates within the parameters,” he said. Juan Carlos Oblitas.

Finally, the general director said of Fossati: “I think he is the ideal coach for the critical moment we are experiencing.”

“Everything will be solved between today and tomorrow”

Juan Carlos Oblitas, general director of football, indicated that talks with Jorge Fossati are in full swing and said that the Uruguayan is the ideal coach to change the course of the Peruvian team. “The conversations have been flowing, only since yesterday. Since Jorge (Fossati)'s contract with Universitario has been terminated, there is no deadline, but I hope it is between today and tomorrow,” said the former Bicolor coach on the choice of the new strategist.
