Peruvians demand Pedro Castillo’s resignation

In Lima, the capital of Peru, protesters occupied Emancipation Avenue; Government accused of corruption

Thousands of Peruvians took to the streets on Saturday (5/11/2022) to demand the resignation of current President Pedro Castillo. In Lima, the capital of Peru, demonstrators occupied the city’s main street, Avenida de la Emancipação.

Castillo is accused of being part of a criminal organization, being a peddler and breaking up. On October 12, the Peruvian Ministry of State submitted an indictment against the Peruvian leader to Congress. He says the allegations constitute “persecution.”

In a statement on Saturday (November 5), Castillo called opponents of his government “enemies of the people” and said he would maintain his mandate to the last day.

The National Police of Peru was called in to control the demonstrations. The group points this out on its Twitter profile said that peaceful protest is a “civil right.”
peruteet6nov2022 The Office of the Public Defender of Peru he requested that the police use tear gas “rationally”. “You must avoid the use of horses in mobilizations and protests, as determined by the judiciary,” the agency added on its Twitter profile.
