Pfizer announced on Monday a voluntary recovery of medicines to treat high blood pressure. The recall includes several lots of Accuretic distributed by Greenstone and two lots of generic drugs.

The batch is being recalled because it contains unacceptable amounts of nitrosamines and impurities found in foods such as meat and cheese. According to the US Food and Drug Administration, it can also form when foods and products are processed in the body. However, long-term or high-dose consumption of nitrosamines can increase the risk of cancer.

The specific lot number and photo of the medicine bottle can be found in the recall announcement. Accuretic and its generic version contain either quinapril HCl / hydrochlorothiazide or quinapril and hydrochlorothiazide.

Pfizer has not reported any adverse events associated with the recall, and patients taking the Acculetic or Generic version will be asked if the current batch is affected and if they should be discontinued. Or he states that he needs to consult a pharmacy.

High blood pressure, or high blood pressure, is a very common health condition that is also associated with heart disease and stroke-according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, it is the two leading causes of death in the United States.

The New York Times reports that more tests looking for impurities in drugs have led to recalls in recent months. This week, pharmaceutical company Sandoz issued several recalls of pain-relieving medications for musculoskeletal conditions that exceed high levels of nitrosamines.

“Our investigations and tests continue, and along with investigations conducted by other drug regulators, low levels of nitrosamines may be found in additional drugs,” the FDA said on its nitrosamine information page.
