Phil Mickelson ‘is at peace’ with never playing on the PGA Tour or Ryder Cup again as he claims the majors are the tournaments ‘that make a mark’ – and LIV Golf’s chief rebel believes he is ‘a or two” can win more!
Chief LIV Golf defector Phil Mickelson claimed he was “at peace” never playing on the PGA Tour again after jumping into the Saudi-backed series last year.
The 52-year-old quickly went from hero to zero last year when he berated the PGA Tour for their “insufferable greed” and called the Saudis “creepy shit” before joining LIV Golf the year after his sixth major win at the PGA Championship.
If he hadn’t already broken enough bridges with the PGA Tour, he was cut short indefinitely when Commissioner Jay Monahan suspended the LIV Rebels the minute they teeed off at the series’ inaugural event last June.

However, the left-hander, who played on the PGA Tour for 30 years, claimed he was “happy” with the result as the Majors are the tournaments he’s aiming for.
“If I never played another PGA Tour event again, I would be totally fine with it,” he said in an interview with Sports Illustrated. “But I think next year I’ll have the opportunity if I want to [due to the pending litigation].
“The tournaments where you will make your mark are the majors. That creates a memory. Who cares if I win another tour event?’
The six-time major winner also claimed he could add one or two more to his silver medal by repeating his triumph on Kiawah Island, which saw him win the 2021 PGA Championship at the age of 50.

“I’m in every major over the next three years and I think I have a chance to win one or two more and make those achievements that haven’t been achieved at this point,” he added. “I feel like I can duplicate Kiawah.”
Despite insisting he believes he’ll have another chance to make the PGA Tour next year, the 45-time Tour winner has claimed he might not want to.
He said that between 14 events on LIV’s Rebel circuit and the big four tournaments, he “won’t have the time” to also play on the PGA Tour, insisting he prefers the number of events he plays would “reduce”.

Mickelson, who represented Team USA 12 times at the Ryder Cup and was vice-captain once in 2021, also claimed he was “perfectly comfortable” no longer being part of the biannual clash against Europe.
The Americans have already ruled that no defectors from the PGA Tour will be allowed ahead of this year’s event at the Marco Simone Golf and Country Club outside of Rome.
However, the picture is not yet clear on the European side, who are looking to recover from a 19-9 win in Whistling Straits.
But Mickelson, who was jailed as a future US captain, insisted he was also “satisfied” with never attending the event again, as he’s had “more great experiences than probably anyone”.
