The Quebec Major Baseball League held its annual draft for 22-year-old junior players on Sunday in Sainte-Thérèse, and it was up to comedian Philippe Laprise, who became co-owner of the Coaticook Big Bill last June, and Samuel Rajotte returned the honor, the first selection to announce.
The Coaticook team had a total of five picks in the first round after also calling Louis Ager, William Verville, Ryan Bawart and Loïc Jolicoeur-Pomerleau.
Rajotte performed particularly well last season with the Dukes of Longueuil in the Quebec Junior Elite Baseball League (LBJEQ). In 38 regular season games, the outfielder posted a .339 batting average, hit eight home runs and recorded 42 RBIs. He then helped the Dukes win the playoff championship.
Enrico Roy, a product of the Quebec Diamants, was the second choice overall and ended up at Thetford Mines club.
