Phillies fan confronts Angel Hernandez in the parking lot

It looks like Angel Hernandez is maintaining his reputation as MLB’s worst umpire.

Standing behind the plate for a Phillies-Brewers matchup Sunday night, Hernandez blew repeated calls — much to the chagrin of players and fans alike.

The 60-year-old missed 19 calls, including a strike for a pitch that missed the box by 6.47 inches. Corresponding Referee AuditorHernandez’s correct percentage was a meager 85.3 percent.

A Phillies fan wanted to give Hernandez his opinion after the game and waited for him in the parking lot.

As Hernandez drove by, the angry fan yelled at the referee’s car. “Angel Hernandez, you stink,” he yelled. “I don’t like you.” Hernandez simply replied with a smile as he drove away.

During Sunday’s brutal game, both teams kept complaining about Hernandez’s calls. Kyle Schwarber was thrown out in the ninth inning for walking on the ump after another horrible play.

The left fielder threw his racquet and helmet after being called, confronted Hernandez about his sentence and charged back to the dugout. Schwarber returned once more to remind Hernandez what a terrible job he did before leaving the game.

“Everyone kind of saw what was going on,” Schwarber said. “I’m not here to bury anyone, but that wasn’t very good. That’s what you wish for, I don’t know how to say it, it just wasn’t good.”

ESPN Sunday Night Baseball analyst David Cone chimed in on the show to echo Schwarber’s frustrations. “I’m surprised it’s taken this long for anyone to have an outbreak like this,” he said.

Hernandez’s reign of terror lasted just two hours and 49 minutes and Milwaukee won 1-0.
