Nikon’s official representative in Mauritius announces the launch of the new Z 8, a mirrorless camera, in our market. It has the performance of the Z 9, the brand’s flagship, but in a more compact body.
Mimosa Co Ltd, Nikon’s official representative in Mauritius, announced the release of the Z 8 on Monday 15 May 2023. This is a new mirrorless camera that combines the advanced performance of the Z 9, the brand’s flagship, with a more compact and lighter body. The Z 8 is designed for videographers and photographers.
The Z 8 offers video resolutions up to 8K UHD/30p and 4K UHD/60p and multiple recording options and formats including N-RAW, ProRes RAW and ProRes 422 HQ. It also enables time-lapse video in 8K HDR mode with Hybrid Log Gamma (HLG) support. The camera has a four-axis vertical/horizontal tilting monitor that adapts to the orientation of the shot.
According to Nikon, the Z 8 stands out for its stability when shooting handheld. With the battery and two memory cards, it weighs around 910 grams and can record up to around 125 minutes in 4K UHD/60p and up to around 90 minutes in 8K UHD/30p. It is compatible with a range of video accessories including the MC-N10 Remote Control Grip, wireless video transmitters and V-mount batteries.
The Z8 benefits from an autofocus system that recognizes and tracks up to nine different types of subjects, including human faces and eyes, animals and airplanes. It also has a pre-trigger burst feature that allows you to capture up to a second before the shutter button is fully pressed, or up to 4 seconds after it is pressed. The live viewfinder shows the movement of the subject in real time without occlusion.
The Z8 has built-in retouching features that make editing portraits and videos easier. It offers a makeup function that smoothes skin while keeping eyes and hair sharp, and a portrait rendering adjustment function that adjusts hue and brightness. It also supports the new HLG format (HEIF) for 10-bit still images with richer gradations.
The Z8 is made of a new eco-friendly material that increases its toughness and resistance to shock, dust and drops. It is equipped with a VR lock function that protects the image sensor from accidental damage when the device is off. It also has a powerful image stabilizer that produces an effect equivalent to a 6.0 f-stop shutter speed.
The Z8 is the first model in the Z series to come with two USB ports: one for charging or power and the other for data transfer. It can be used with the MB-N12 battery, which allows about 1.8 times more shots and recording time.
The Nikon Z 8 will be available in Mauritius from the end of May 2023 from Mimosa Co Ltd for Rs 203,600.
