SAINT FREDERICK | Two people died and nine others were injured in a serious collision near Saint-Frédéric, Beauce. According to the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), there is cause for concern for the lives of some of the injured.

A man in his 40s and a 12-year-old boy were confirmed dead of their injuries on Wednesday night.

A minivan and a 53-foot semi-truck collided around 4 p.m. on Highway 112, just east of the intersection with Highway 276.

The 53-foot vehicle involved wore the colors of the Center de formation en transport de Charlesbourg by eye.

“Six people were in the minivan and five people in the 53-foot truck. […] We have six seriously injured and five others who still need to be examined,” explains SQ spokeswoman Béatrice d’Orsainville.

Although she cannot confirm the ages of the victims at this time, the spokeswoman claims that children “may be involved”.

Four ambulances were called to transport the injured.

Some of the victims had to be taken to Quebec, Thetford Mines and Saint-Georges de Beauce.

The part of the road that separates the communes of Saint-Frédéric and Vallée-Jonction was completely closed to traffic throughout the evening.

Investigation

“There are no specific deadlines for the reopening, the reconstructionists will analyze the scene,” notes Ms. d’Orsainville.

SQ investigators were also on the scene to understand the circumstances of the accident.

Police say it’s “too early” to know what really happened.
