A woman in her 40s was seriously injured in a fire at a three-story apartment building in Montreal’s Sud-Ouest neighborhood on Thursday night.
The fire broke out around 1 a.m. in an apartment on the third floor of the building on Avenue Marin, near Rue Saint-Jacques.
The 40-year-old was taken to the hospital in critical condition to be treated for her injuries, a spokesman for the Montreal Fire Department (SIM) said.
A third alarm was raised to mobilize about 90 firefighters who were able to control the fire on the third floor of the building.
The six apartments in the building are uninhabitable “for now,” the SIM said, which says the residents were being cared for by the Canadian Red Cross.
SIM believes it is too early to speak about the cause of this fire while the investigation is ongoing.
In addition, the SIM speaker reminds us of the importance of working smoke detectors in buildings to avoid such situations.
