A helicopter carried out the impressive delivery of spas and materials to the top of the Sainte-Foy sector on Sunday morning, much to the astonishment of local residents.

However, motorists who slowed to watch the scene and residents of the sector phone in hand did not have the right thing. Responsible for this “show” is the company SKYSPA, which is located in the top of a tower on Laurier Boulevard.

“We had to replace a cold pool and a California pool because the pipes had frozen and ruptured in January when we were closed due to the pandemic,” explains SKYSPA Director Sean Sauvé.

Because the facility is on the 17th floor of a tower, over 200 feet above the ground, even the largest crane available in the area was not high enough to reach the top.

So a helicopter, direct from Gatineau, set about transporting the two pools, one of which weighed more than 1,000 pounds, and materials for the patio’s renovation.

Complex and expensive

The operation, which cost more than $100,000 just to move the helicopter and deliver the parts, eventually went smoothly in less than an hour.

The terrace, which has been closed since the rupture, can be reopened at the end of July once the work has been completed.

“It took a lot of logistics with the government, the police forces and getting the necessary permits to make this happen. We’ve been working on it since February,” explains Mr. Sauvé.

It is not the first time that the SKYSPA has performed such an impressive maneuver. In 2011, during construction, we decided to use the same technique to bring in the pools.
