Instead, it was the school’s women’s basketball team, led by top NCAA player Caitlin Clark, that stole the show.

The Hawkeyes not only won their exhibition game against the DePaul University Blue Demons in Chicago 94-72, but also in front of a record crowd of 55,646 spectators.

The previous mark was 29,619 spectators for the national final in 2002.

The atmosphere at Kinnick Football Stadium was at its peak on Sunday, even though the stadium was not at capacity, allowing Clark to record a triple double with 34 points, 10 assists and 11 rebounds. It can accommodate 69,250 fans.
