As genre fiction proliferates on television – here and elsewhere – Mélissa Désormeaux-Poulin’s name currently appears in the credits of a horror series, Lac-Noir, and a spy thriller, Classified Secret. “I have the chance,” says the actress happily. And maybe we have viewers who have a greater preference for genre series.”

His two roles allowed him to fulfill one wish. “Playing a spy and doing stunts were some of the things I dreamed of as an actress. Starring in a horror series was something I knew nothing about and wanted to do. It all came to me.”

Sophisticated filming
However, Mélissa admits that filming such series is physically difficult. “In Classified I have to do a lot of stunts. And Lac-Noir is often shot at night, we run after animals, we fight… Both shots are demanding. But the fact that I can exert myself physically in addition to my job as an actress makes me really happy!”

She dances with wolves
The first season of Lac-Noir ended when Montreal police officer Valérie Roberge (Mélissa Désormeaux-Poulin) decided to stay in the village that gave the series its name because her son Dave (Anthony Therrien) had become a werewolf. “Valérie has a very difficult time dealing with not telling the truth about the existence of werewolves. But now that her son is one of them, she has to keep the secret to herself. Her teammate Adrien (Stéphane Demers) will try to regain her trust, but she doesn’t trust wolves because they have animal instincts. There are some who are wreaking havoc in the village and she is not reassured. And representatives of the Senate of Wolves arrive… To them, this is all unreal!

Things aren’t any easier for Canadian Secret Service agent Rachel Miller, who plays Mélissa in “Classified Secret.” “Someone enjoys destroying everything they have to destabilize them, and it works. Her life will slowly fall apart and she will question her desire to work. And with that she mourns the loss of her husband (Patrick Labbé).”

DRIVEN BY YOUR PROJECTS
Her projects keep her busy 24 hours a day when she shoots them. “For me it is very positive that it lives in me. That means I’m constantly thinking about it and trying to come up with ideas. Once I get some distance, I think I won’t be tempted to do this job anymore. When I’m filming, I’m happiest.”

FIRST THE FAMILY
Mélissa Désormeaux-Poulin has not done any theater since 2011. “It’s something I put aside. I didn’t go to theater school. I was asked to do it many times, but I was so busy that I said no.” And it is also a family decision. “I can’t be there for my children in the evenings.” Even if Léa, 17, and Florence, 10, “are starting to stand on their own two feet.”

When we think of her daughters, we remember that Mélissa also started acting at a very young age. “I had a desire to do this without knowing it was a career. At the age of four or five, I was putting on plays and telling stories. And when the movie “The Frog and the Whale” came out, I remember seeing it so many times that I knew all the lines. I wanted to be Fanny Lauzier!” Two years later we saw Mélissa in Jamais deux sans toi.

LIFE-SAVING TRAVEL
She has another passion: traveling. “If I have a month or two off, my family and I can go anywhere. It feeds the actress that I am. I’m less interested in the superficial side of my job. And having a Kodak in front of you all the time helps you remember that you’re getting older. Traveling brings me back to basics.”

Mélissa takes on her role as a police officer again in the second season Black Lakewhich just landed on Club illico.
And since October 18th we find her in the second season of
Secret secret Wednesdays at 9 p.m. in the ADDIK.
