“Passion is a common thread that we both have. »
This is how Pierre Houde described the connections between him and his brother Paul during his appearance on the program Tout le monde en parole on ICI Télé on Sunday evening.
Paul Houde, a true icon of communication with encyclopedic knowledge, died last Saturday at around 5:30 am.
Pierre Houde provided information about the health of his brother, who had had a “huge mass in the brain” for some time. Without knowing whether the mass in Paul's brain was cancerous, Pierre said his brother had suffered a series of falls which led him to visit the health service to potentially undergo surgery to reduce his size.
“The operation was a success,” admitted Pierre Houde at Guy A. Lepage’s microphone. His surgeon is a brilliant man who, by his own admission, performed a masterpiece around the clock. You can imagine a nine and a half hour operation. Imagine having someone's life in your hands. He was convinced he had achieved a masterpiece and unfortunately there were other complications that caused Paul's heart to stop on Saturday morning. »
Pierre Houde admitted that he has become much closer to his older brother in recent years, although their professional paths developed in parallel.
“It's a little unfortunate that Paul and I always wanted to leave the land to everyone. Life has meant that I have had my niche on RDS for 35 years and Paul has had his niche on radio. Over the years we have become very close. Recently I said that we were two twins three years apart. Our dream was to work together in the coming years and unfortunately that will not be possible,” said Pierre sadly.
As a tribute to Paul Houde, Pierre was accompanied by Marc Labrèche, Jean-Philippe Wauthier and Thérèse Parisien.
Despite the sadness, Pierre Houde remained true to his post a few hours later as he covered the first Formula 1 Grand Prix of the season on our airwaves.
“I'm convinced Paul would have said, 'Brother, go to the Bahrain Grand Prix.' “If it had been the other way around, I would have wanted Paul to do his live shows too.” »
In addition, Pierre took the time to thank the RDS Formula 1 production team for helping him get through this difficult moment.
“I had a real director and a second one who spoke in my ear,” Pierre Houde opened with an emotional smile.
Paul Houde worked in the media sector for 48 years. His last radio appearances were last December.
In cultural, sporting and political circles, Paul Houde's contribution to Quebec society was widely praised.
“On behalf of all members of the RDS family, I would like to express our sincere condolences to the family of Paul Houde, in particular his brother Pierre and his son Karl, but also to all his friends and work colleagues,” said Charles Perreault, general director of RDS, on Sunday.
“Canadians are saddened by the death of Paul Houde and would like to extend their sincerest condolences to his family, particularly his brother Pierre. Above all, Paul was a monument to the Quebec media world as a man of exceptional quality. Our thoughts are with you during this difficult time, Pierre,” said the Montreal Canadiens organization.
