The support that a few dozen French cultural figures showed this week in an open letter for Gérard Depardieu has just created the first collateral victim.
A French association that claims to fight against all forms of child abuse announces that it has severed its ties with famous actor Pierre Richard.
The Perpignan-based association Les Papillons states in a press release published on social networks that Pierre Richard has been one of its ambassadors for three years.
The leaders of the association knew about the friendship between Mr. Richard and Gérard Depardieu, which grew out of the films they made together and a certain idea of a good life. However, they add that there are actions and comments that cannot be accepted or excused, even in the name of friendship.
The association Les Papillons considers that the platform of support for Gérard Depardieu signed by Pierre Richard is indecent and that the 89-year-old Mr Richard is therefore no longer one of its ambassadors.
A recent documentary details 16 women's allegations of sexual misconduct against Gérard Depardieu and shows the actor making lewd comments and gestures during a trip to North Korea in 2018.
Gérard Depardieu denies any wrongdoing.
