One Avianca aircraft With 235 passengers on board, a diversion had to be made emergency landing last Thursday (30) on a remote island in the Atlantic. Flight AV11 departed yesterday afternoon from Madrid, Spain, bound for Bogotá, Colombia, but the Dashboard of a Boeing 7878 indicated an oil leak that caused the pilot to shut down an engine.
The plane was relatively close to the island of Santa Maria, which is part of the Azores, an archipelago that is part of Portugal. The commander then turned around, flew with only one turbine and managed to land in the Spanish capital around five hours after takeoff. The 235 passengers and crew exited the aircraft safely and without injuries.
According to the Aviation Herald specialist website, the aircraft remained grounded in Santa Maria on Friday morning (1).

The airline reported that the plane was diverted to Santa Maria for a safe landing due to a technical defect. The company then began an operation at 10 a.m. local time in the Azores (8 a.m. in Brasília) to relocate and transport passengers to their destination Bogotá on another aircraft.
A Boeing 7878 plane that flew between Bogota and Madrid this Friday was supposed to be transferred empty to Santa Maria to take passengers from the island to the capital of Colombia.
