PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – “Moderate turbulence” made several passengers sick on a flight bound for Philadelphia International Airport, American Airlines officials confirmed to CBS Philadelphia. Crews from the Office of Emergency Management and the CDC responded to PHL for the flight’s arrival to check on the passengers, who became ill and vomited.

“The captain mentioned that we have a weather system forming around us,” a passenger on the plane told CBS Philadelphia. “It was pretty bad and he asked permission to walk up and down and was denied. It was just very bumpy. It was just inconsistent. It was loud from all directions.

“It was pretty bad.”

The American Airlines flight landed shortly after 8:45 p.m. Thursday from St. Thomas in the US Virgin Islands.

A representative of American Airlines made the following statement:

“American Airlines Flight 2528 encountered moderate turbulence en route from St. Thomas, USVI (STT) to Philadelphia (PHL).

Nobody was taken to a hospital.

Airport officials say there has been no impact on service.
