The captain of HV71 in the Swedish Women’s Professional League and two-time Olympic bronze medalist Sanni Hakala suffered a serious injury on Friday.
The Finnish player crashed headfirst into the post and had to be taken to Rhykov District Hospital on a stretcher.
Jönköpings Posten reported on Saturday that Hakala no longer had feeling in his lower limbs.
However, the latest information from HV71 in a press release was even more encouraging. According to the organization, Hakala was transferred to Linköping University Hospital late Friday evening before undergoing surgery on Saturday. That went well.
“A long period of rehabilitation awaits him,” they added.
