His candidacy will be formalized on Wednesday morning in the presence of Ms Anglade at a press conference at the local party office in the capital, Le Journal was able to confirm with the Liberal campaign.
Charles Robert worked behind the scenes in politics for fifteen years, notably serving as deputy director in Philippe Couillard’s cabinet from 2014 to 2018, when he was Prime Minister of Quebec.
The following year he joined official opposition leader Dominique Anglade’s team in similar capacities. Previously, he worked notably with former Ministers Laurent Lessard and Lise Thériault.
However, last year he had to take a break for health reasons.
Mr. Robert thus becomes the fourth Liberal candidate announced by the PLQ in the Capitale-Nationale region out of a total of eleven Ridings to be covered.
At Jean-Lesage, covering Limoilou and west of Beauport, he meets reigning Sol Zanetti (QS), Christiane Gamache (CAQ), Michaël Potvin (PQ) and Denise Peter (PCQ).
According to poll aggregator Qc125.com, about two weeks before the election is announced, a heated battle is expected between QS and CAQ, who are credited with 34% and 33% of voting intentions in this race, respectively.
The PLQ, which already represented him with André Drolet from 2008 to 2018, is 8% according to this aggregator.
