Poilievre Less Pitbull, More Golden Retriever | JDM – Le Journal de Montreal

Pierre Poilievre’s makeover continues to be talked about.

In a press conference this morning, he was asked the question directly: you no longer wear glasses, you have a new haircut and are showing more joie de vivre, what’s going on?

His answer was ready: “It’s summer, my wife thinks I look better without glasses, so first I have to make her happy.”

“But whether I wear glasses or not, I have the best vision in the country!”

Well sent. Obviously the line was written in advance.

Known for his aggressive and cutting style, he has toned down his image and tone in recent weeks.

Less Pitbull, more Golden Retriever. He himself said so in a recent interview with local media in British Columbia.

“I’m friendly, easy to get along with, and can get along with anyone,” he explained, comparing himself to the blond animal. But I’m willing to fight if anyone wants chaos.”

Inspired by Trudeau?

There is no danger.

Poilievre and his entourage view the polls like everyone else. He’s not enjoying a honeymoon.

His performance in the last by-election fell short of expectations and is even a cause for concern.

Poilievre is looking for himself. He chose a more relaxed, cool and less uptight style.

He now mostly drops his glasses. No more white shirts and thick diamonds.

He’s sort of following in the footsteps of his predecessor, Erin O’Toole, who took up running and posed on her 2021 campaign podium in a tight black t-shirt to show off her biceps.

We have to acknowledge the irony of these conservative leaders trying to compete with Justin Trudeau in his own field, that of looks.

They made fun of his hair and career as a drama teacher.

Andrew Scheer, Erin O’Toole and now Pierre Poilievre have all drawn inspiration from it in their own way.
