In Poland, around 29 million citizens are called to vote in a new parliament on Sunday. According to polls, the ruling national conservative party, Law and Justice (PiS), is likely to remain the strongest force, but will lose its absolute majority. Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki would then have to rely on the ultra-right Konfederacja to form a government. To achieve an absolute majority, 231 of the 460 parliamentary seats are needed.
According to polls, former Prime Minister Donald Tusk’s liberal-conservative Citizens’ Coalition (KO) is in second place, just behind PiS. If he wins the elections, he will be able to form a coalition with the left-wing Lewica alliance and the Christian-conservative Third Way. The first predictions are expected after the polls close at 9 pm.
