Polestar 5: A future 872 hp star is on the way

Polestar today unveiled a prototype of its future flagship model, the Polestar 5. It is a powerful four-door electric coupe based on the 2020 Precept concept.

The company associates this vehicle with the world’s great sports cars, which are produced in limited numbers and are known for their phenomenal power-to-weight ratio.

The Polestar 5 uses a new platform, 800-volt electrical architecture and unprecedented motorization, including a very high-efficiency front motor. We are talking about an output of 872 hp, which clearly surpasses cars such as the Audi RS e-tron GT and all versions of the Porsche Taycan. Torque is 663 lb-ft.

In comparison, the current Polestar 2 is only half as powerful with its 408 hp. The torque gap is significantly smaller as it produces 487 lb-ft.

Unfortunately, we don’t know the other specifications of the Polestar 5, such as weight, acceleration and battery capacity, let alone autonomy. Its launch will come sometime in 2024, after the Polestar 3 and Polestar 4 SUVs (the second will be a coupe version of the first).

There’s more details in a YouTube documentary series about transforming the Precept concept into Polestar 5, so don’t miss it. Incidentally, it is manufactured in China in a new factory that is said to be climate-neutral and one of the most modern in the world.
