Police officer steals deceased man’s credit card to buy fake eyelashes

A Florida police officer who allegedly stole a deceased’s credit card to buy eyelash extensions and fast food was arrested on Tuesday for theft.

“She was a police officer, but she doesn’t deserve that title now,” Saint-Cloud Police Chief Doug Goerke said Wednesday, according to Law & Crime media. The badge she wore is tarnished and will never be worn again; in fact it will be destroyed.”

Dianne Ferreira, 25, has been accused of stealing the credit card details of a man she was reportedly called to see in early April, who was having trouble breathing.

When the emergency services arrived on site, the man was already dead, the English-language media said.

However, in the weeks that followed, his widow noticed suspicious purchases, including gasoline, a fast-food order from Wendy’s restaurant chain, and a one-night hotel stay, made after her husband’s death.

Two other attempts, eyelash extensions and petrol, were reportedly added to the card after the latter was cancelled. According to Law & Crime, by chasing the suspect vehicle, police would have returned to Dianne Ferreira.

Specifically, the police officer admitted during interrogation to taking a picture of the card to make a series of online purchases totaling $450. She was formally charged with credit card theft, fraudulent use of a credit card and using a deceased person’s identity.

“As a police officer, I get sick every time we have to do something like this,” Osceola County Sheriff Marcos Lopez said at the news conference. Everyone is held accountable for their actions. […] Taking advantage of a person in times of need is absolutely wrong.”
