(Montreal) The Bureau of Independent Investigations (BEI) opened an investigation into an interference with the Sûreté du Québec in the Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean region on Saturday.
Published yesterday at 6:32 p.m.
The BEI was called upon to intervene shortly after 4 a.m. Saturday at the request of the Sûreté du Québec.
Police had deployed patrol officers three hours earlier in the Chicoutimi sector, where two citizens reported a race between several vehicles.
The police then located the vehicle behind the racer in the Saint-Bruno sector, activated their flashing lights and turned around to pursue it.
A few seconds later, the affected driver lost control of his vehicle and left the road, causing him to suffer serious injuries.
The person, whose age was not provided, was subsequently taken to a hospital where his condition “is currently considered critical,” according to a press release from the BEI, which has assigned five investigators to this case.
Given the context of the intervention, the BEI tasked the Montreal City Police Department with investigating the crimes that may have occurred during the night, which led to the intervention of the Sûreté du Québec.
