Polish border guards: more entries into Ukraine than exits

Poland’s border guards counted more entries into Ukraine than exits from the neighboring country to the east on Saturday. Some 22,000 people have left Poland for Ukraine, the border guard tweeted on Sunday. In contrast, 19,200 people came to Poland from Ukraine over the same period – nearly a quarter less than the day before.

According to the UN, more than 2.8 million people have fled to safety in neighboring Poland since the Russian attack on Ukraine began. According to the authorities, most of those who returned to Ukraine were Ukrainian nationals. They mainly travel to areas that the Ukrainian army has reconquered. There is no official information on how many war refugees stayed in Poland and how many traveled to other EU countries.

Before the Russian invasion on February 24, Ukraine had a population of over 44 million. Poland and Ukraine are connected by a border that is more than 500 kilometers long.
