The farewell of the former Vice President and former Minister of Economy and Finance took place in the Hall of Lost Steps of the Legislative Palace.
President Luis Lacalle Pou attended there.
“I came because of institutional and human concerns, because of individual concerns. “Fortunately, here in Uruguay we all know each other and there is not that famous crack that we know in other countries,” the president told the press.
Vice President Beatriz Argimón also took part in the farewell ceremony. “Today one of the undisputed leaders of the Frente is leaving Amplio,” he said.
Also present on the government side were Defense Minister Javier García and Presidential Secretary Álvaro Delgado, both candidates for the ruling National Party’s presidential candidacy.
FA President Fernando Pereira led the honoring of this opposition political group.
The Broad Front’s pre-candidates for the 2024 elections were joined by the mayors of the departments of Montevideo and Canelones, Carolina Cosse and Yamandú Orsi.
From political circles, Astori’s death at the age of 83 sparked recognition for his contribution to politics and the national economy.
