In the US state of Florida, the dispute over the self-government rights of the Disney World amusement park intensified. Yesterday (local time), an oversight committee formed by Republican Governor Ron DeSantis responded with a counter-suit to a lawsuit previously filed by US entertainment giant Disney.
The oversight body’s action is aimed at retaining control of the district long controlled by Disney.
In late April, the supervisory board decided to cancel previous agreements regarding Disney World’s right to self-government. Disney then filed a lawsuit against DeSantis. The company accuses the archconservative politician and potential Republican presidential candidate of a targeted retaliation campaign based on the company’s political positions.
Disney and DeSantis have been in a heated race over the past year, and it’s only escalated. The entertainment group has criticized a law promoted by the governor that prohibits teaching in kindergartens and the first three years of elementary school about sexual orientation and gender identity.
