With regard to a possible second presidential term, Bukele has “strong and solid support from the Salvadoran people,” according to figures from pollster Tresearch, which show that despite the alleged unconstitutionality of his continued re-election, 94 percent would support the presidential candidacy.
The approval level shows an increase compared to January, which was 92.7 percent, resulting in higher confidence among the Salvadoran population, reports Diario El Salvador.
Those consulted were said to have been influenced by confrontations with gangs and achievements in reducing violence, which some experts rank as the safest nation in the region after actions backed by the emergency regime, branded by various organizations as a human rights abuser.
The polling station Cid Gallup also published an evaluation of the presidents of 13 Latin American countries in which the Salvadoran received an approval rating of 90 percent for his performance.
El Salvador will elect the President and Vice-President of the Republic for five years on February 4, 2024, and at the moment only Bukele has launched his candidacy, which must be confirmed within the Nuevas Ideas party.
