Pop star Bad Bunny stars in Sony Marvel film El Muerto

Bad Bunny, the world’s most popular musician on Spotify for two years, will star in a new movie for Sony’s Marvel Universe.

The 28-year-old Puerto Rican singer, whose real name is Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, will star in El Muerto, whose title character is a wrestler wearing a super-powered mask.

“Bringing El Muerto to life is just amazing…so exciting,” Bad Bunny told an audience at industry event CinemaCon. The film is scheduled to hit theaters in 2024.

In addition to his hugely successful music career, Bad Bunny has appeared as a wrestler at major WWE events such as WrestleMania 37 in 2021 and Royal Rumble earlier this year.

This week he announced the title of his next album, Un Verano Sin Ti, although a release date has not yet been set. It follows the three albums he released in 2020: YHLQMDLG, Las Que No Iban a Salir and El Último Tour del Mundo, whose popularity – particularly in America – made him the most-streamed artist on Spotify in 2020 and 2021.

El Muerto will continue a burgeoning acting career for Bad Bunny, who also stars in upcoming Brad Pitt-starring thriller Bullet Train, set in Japan.

El Muerto also continues to expand the Spider-Man universe of characters overseen by Sony Pictures alongside the core Marvel stable. Following two films starring Venom and the recently critically acclaimed Morbius, El Muerto is said to be followed by two more Sony Marvel films: Kraven the Hunter, starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Madame Web, starring Dakota Johnson.
