Pope Francis said this this Wednesday (12). doesn't want to be buried Vaticanin accordance with the tradition of the Catholic Church.
For more than 100 years, popes have been buried in the grottoes of St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican.
That's what Francisco, who turns 87 this weekend, said wants to be buried in the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiorewith which he prays before and after each of his trips and which contains his favorite picture of Mary, the mother of Jesus.
The Pope said this in an interview with the Mexican broadcaster Televisa has a confirmed trip to Belgium next year and is considering a trip to Polynesia and Argentinahis homeland.
“It is true that all travel is now being rethought,” he said. “If they are there, they can be dealt with. If they are further away, they will be reconsidered. There are Limits.”
It was Francisco's first interview since his last acute attack of bronchitiswhich forced him to cancel a trip to Dubai for COP28 this month.
Although the pope's office is for life, Francis reiterated the possibility of stepping down and said he must prepare for any possibility.
“I ask the Lord to say enough is enough, sometime, but when He wants,” he said.
