The Pope prays for war refugees in Ukrainian and Russian

Pope: “In the war in Ukraine we are witnessing the impotence of the UN” Politics

“In the current war in Ukraine we are witnessing the impotence of the United Nations”. Like the Pope. “Today we often talk about ‘geopolitics’, but unfortunately the logic of the strategies of the most powerful states to assert their interests by expanding the economic, ideological and military sphere of influence dominates, we are seeing that with the war,” said Francis in general audience. “After the Second World War, attempts were made to lay the foundations for a new history of peace, unfortunately we don’t learn anything, but unfortunately the old history of competing great powers continues,” he added.

“Malta in this context represents the rights and strength of the ‘little ones’, of nations small but rich in history and civilisation, which should pursue a different logic: that of respect and freedom, the conviviality of differences, against the colonization of the most powerful. We see it now, and not just on the one hand, but on the other,” the Pope underscored, retracing his trip to Malta.

“Recent news about the war in Ukraine does not bring relief and hope, but testifies to new atrocities such as the Bucha massacre. More and more appalling atrocities, also against civilians, women and defenseless children. They are innocent victims. Blood cries out to the heavens and begs: end this war, silence the guns, stop sowing death and destruction. Let’s pray for it together,” said Pope Francis at the end of the general audience.
