Porn actor won’t be charged with rape because he has dementia

Porn actor Ron Jeremy suffers from “severe dementia” and will be declared unfit to stand trial for rape, an American newspaper reported on Friday (6).

Jeremy, who has appeared in more than 1,700 adult films since the 1970s, underwent psychiatric evaluation before being tried on multiple counts of sexually assaulting 21 women and girls.

The Los Angeles Times cited a leaked email in which prosecution and defense mental health experts concluded that Jeremy is mentally disabled and has little chance of recovery.

“As a result of the expert agreement, the defendant is deemed unfit to stand trial … His prospects for recovery are not good,” Los Angeles County District Attorney Paul Thompson wrote in the email, according to the newspaper.

“Unless he gets better, we can’t bring him to justice for his crimes. Since criminal proceedings are suspended if he is incompetent, we cannot plead guilty or discuss other measures to bring justice to the victims of this case.”

Jeremy was originally charged in January 2020 and prosecutors joined another series of cases against him for crimes that would have been committed throughout several decades of his career.

The former porn star has denied the allegations against him.

Judge George Lomeli ordered a psychiatric evaluation after one of his lawyers, Stuart Goldfarb, said he visited Jeremy in a cell before a hearing and the former porn star did not recognize him.

The allegation of mental incompetence is not final, and if the defendant’s mental health improves with treatment, he may be tried at a later date.

However, dementia is a progressive and mostly degenerative disease.

Jeremy, 69, whose real name is Ronald Jeremy Hyatt, has appeared in famous adult films such as Deep Throat II and John Wayne Bobbitt Uncut.

Sporting his signature mustache, he was one of the porn industry’s most recognizable stars, despite being banned over the past few years over abuse allegations.

In June 2020, Goldfarb denied all allegations, insisting his client was “not a rapist.”

“Ron, as he is, has been the lover of over 4,000 women over the years. To say he’s a rapist is going too far…
