The German luxury car manufacturer wants to open up a new market: that of caravans. Porsche just unveiled its new collaboration with Airstream, the leading manufacturer of aluminum trailers in the United States.
A 5 meter caravan with German performance.
Surprise in the automotive world. The German brand has unveiled its latest craze: a comfortable caravan designed in collaboration with the teams at Airstream, the American touring specialists. The caravan of the future takes up the codes of the aluminum caravan, but of course embodies the performance of the German brand.
baptized “Studio FA Porsche Concept Travel Trailer”, the caravan retains rounded corners while adopting an ultra-flat rear. A detail that would allow it to benefit from aerodynamics unprecedented in the world of towed vehicles. 5 meters long – a small model from an American point of view – it is primarily his adaptive suspensions revolutionizing the Airstream concept. The caravan can thus adapt to the roads that it crosses, but also lower itself as much as possible to be sheltered in a garage, for example. This makes it Airstream’s first “garage-ready” model. Finally, Porsche wanted to incorporate an ecological dimension into its concept by using lightweight materials for the design. This means that the trailer can be attached to both cars with combustion engines and electric motors.
The concept to be marketed soon?
Through this partnership, Porsche and Airstream hope to combine their clout and convince their two sets of customers who are very different to begin with: “Our collaboration with Studio FA Porsche has brought a fresh perspective and talented minds to our never-ending process of ‘improving the Airstream” brought experience,” boasts Bob Wheeler, President of Airstream, in the press release, “is a new design approach aimed at expanding and diversifying our potential customer base.”
If the vehicle currently only exists in the model stage, the two entities are ready to start production and marketing if the concept appeals to both industry professionals and private individuals. Be continued !
