Portneuf Wildlife Reserve offers comfort and quality fishing

RIVER-A-PIERRE | Have you ever thought about living like at home in the middle of the forest in a fully electrified chalet and enjoying a fishing program that offers you very interesting fishing opportunities? This is the kind of stay that Portneuf Game Reserve can now offer you.

“We are an hour and a half from Quebec. “We offer nearly fifty cabins that can sleep between 4 and 14 people,” says director Émilie Girard-Gros-Louis, the first First Nations woman to manage a game reserve. Everything is there to give a professional welcome to fishing, hunting and holiday enthusiasts and now people with reduced mobility. »

It is very impressive to discover what has been done in the Tessier and Proulx maritime sectors. We have set up a power line to supply the chalets in the sectors to equip them with the best equipment on the market, including an electric car charging station at each of them.

These are Horizon chalets that offer a breathtaking view of the surrounding nature.

Accessible to all

In the case of Tessier One, the only building that can accommodate people with reduced mobility, everything has been thought through, starting with easy access to the chalet via ramps. Inside it is no problem to move around easily with a wheelchair or a walker. The bathroom is specially equipped. All kitchen appliances and accessories are easily accessible.

“We did this with the aim of ensuring comprehensive accessibility for everyone who would like to come to us,” explained the director.

What has always impressed me in my reports on this reserve is the condition of the road network. Again, it was immaculate despite the heavy rains that fell in the area. This facilitates access to the chalets, but also to the various fishing lakes offered in the fishing plans and connected to each of the chalets.

Diversity in fishing

Fishing was difficult during our visit due to the heat. Still, we managed to thwart some interesting spots, some of which made the difference. Green, yellow and silver Lake Clear Deep was great for spin fishing. The sinking line with a leader and at the end an Olive Green Woolly Bugger was enough for the fly.

On the territory of the reserve it is possible to fish four species, which is very rare in the net. In addition to the speckled trout, there are also lake trout or lake trout, splake and musk.

The reserve also offers hunting of black bear, moose, chance hunts, deer and small game. In small game hunting, a section is reserved for amateurs who want to practice mountain biking.

“We’re very close to Quebec and we have a lot to offer the fans. I invite people to discover us. I believe that after one visit they will adopt us,” the director concluded during our interview.

successful stay

Several elements speak for this wildlife sanctuary. The easy accessibility, the range of activities, including family stays, and the availability of the resource in large numbers ensure successful stays. For example, let’s mention that the director of moose hunting redefined the zones from 23 to 16, making sure to include protocols to increase the chances of success. Certainly the fact that she hunts, traps and fishes herself has meant that she has made some very good decisions. There is also a major expansion project for the Bellevue campsite.

Extended season on the Laurentides Reserve

The fishing season at Laurentides Game Reserve has been extended until September 10th.

At this time of year the water cools down and fishing is as good as it was at the start of the season. The trout have also put on their brightly colored clothes.

From Monday most available cabins are for two anglers, with reduced prices during the week. There are still large availability in Cyriac, Pikauba, Pecan, Etape, FX Lemieux, Modiks des lacs Ailloux and Jack.

Remember that daily fishing ends on September 9th and stay fishing ends on September 10th.

It’s a great way to end your fishing season. You can find out all by contacting the people at the reserve at 418 528-6868.
