TUCSON, Ariz. (KGUN) – Thousands of Tucson Electric Power (TEP) customers are without power as a thunderstorm rages across southern Arizona.
The Tucson National Weather Service issued a warning to the public just after 7:30 p.m. Sunday, letting them know bad weather was coming.
It pointed out that the main hazard was gusts of up to 60 miles per hour.
About ten minutes later, the TEP informed people of several power outages. These are due to the upcoming storm.
According to the TEP’s website, which tracks live outages, 9,105 customers are currently affected.
Shortly thereafter, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department commented on the storm damage south of the West Ajo Highway and west of Interstate 19.
There were rumors of downed power lines and poles, weak power lines, damage to homes and the smell of natural gas from potential leaks.
Deputies are warning Tucson residents to exercise caution when driving through the storm, particularly in areas where traffic signals are off, such as West Valencia Road and South Cardinal Avenue.
