Power Trip Festival: Metallica, Iron Maiden and Ozzy Osbourne in the California desert – Le Journal de Québec

It’s a poster that will make any heavy metal and heavy rock fan’s mouth water. For three days, Metallica, Iron Maiden, Ozzy Osbourne, AC/DC, Guns N’ Roses and Tool will follow each other in the California desert in the first presentation of the Power Trip Festival.

The gods of rock/metal and their loyal and fervent admirers will gather in Indio in the Coachella Valley from October 6th to 8th, where the famous Coachella Festival takes place every spring.

This is not the first time this place has received such an accumulation of legends in the fall. In 2016, over two weekends, the Desert Trip Festival brought together no less than Paul McCartney, the Rolling Stones, Roger Waters, The Who, Bob Dylan and Neil Young.

Of course, all this has its price. General admission tickets for all three days of Power Trip start at $599 plus fees. There is nothing under $1599 for VIP packages.

On October 6th, Guns N’ Roses and Iron Maiden doubles.

It will be interesting to know if singers Bruce Dickinson and Axl Rose will exchange pleasantries.

In a 2015 interview with the Journal, Bruce Dickinson revealed that he had problems with Axl Rose during a concert at the Coliseum in Quebec where Guns N’ Roses were delivering the first part of Iron Maiden. Rose had offended viewers for speaking French to her.

“I should have gone on stage and hit him. How dare he speak to my audience like that? I’ve always regretted not doing it,” he confided.

AC/DC and Ozzy Osbourne will follow them on stage on October 7th. Metallica and Tool will be the stars of the last night.

New Metallica song

Speaking of Metallica, the Quebecers’ favourites, who are expected to spend two nights at the Olympic Stadium this summer, on Thursday presented a new excerpt from their album 72 Seasons, which will be released on April 14th.

Over seven euphoric minutes, the album’s title track bridges the gap between 1980s Metallica thrash and the more hard rock and melodic tinges of the 1990s, following tracks Screaming Suicide, Lux Æterna and If Darkness Had a Son , already known to the public.

The title 72 Seasons refers to the first 18 years of our existence, those that form “our real or false identities, the concept that our parents told us who we are,” states singer James Hetfield, who wrote in a press release the home group is quoted records.

Metallica’s world tour begins April 27 in Amsterdam.
