A merger of low pressure areas and an arctic air mass is expected to form a blast system in Quebec. Forecast.
Hybrid system
Meteorologists speak of a hybrid system when a low pressure area draws energy from a tropical wave. This time there would be two tropical depressions that would come into play. The first is currently off the coast of Florida, the other is closer to Central America. As they moved up the east coast of the United States, they would merge into a frontal system that should be found in eastern Quebec.
Perfect recipe
With a rush of arctic air gliding over the American East Coast, all the conditions would be in place for this beautiful amalgam to intensify explosively. This is a typical weather bomb scenario: a low pressure area that deepens very quickly. The battle of the air masses coupled with a turmoil full of moisture is the perfect recipe.
Explosive weekend
Tropical areas will produce heat, but bitter cold behind the front risks consolidating precipitation in expected areas. There would be snow in certain areas on Saturday and Sunday, particularly in Gaspésie and the north coast. The largest accumulations easily exceed 15 cm, particularly in mountainous terrain. But it wouldn’t just be snow. The Maritimes and Magdalen Islands would face a real rainstorm with strong winds of up to 90 km/h.
