The Italian company will work with another company, Axiom Space, to combine their materials and manufacturing expertise, BBC News reports.

Astronaut Jeffrey Hoffman believes Prada can overcome this challenge, particularly given its experience designing nautical suits.

“Prada has significant experience with different types of composite materials and could make real technical contributions to the outer layers of the new suit,” he explains.

However, according to Hoffman, the new equipment won’t be extravagant.

“A spacesuit is a bit like a miniature spaceship,” he continues. Maintaining a good thermal environment is really the most important thing.”

The suits are expected to be used for the first time in 2025 during the Artemis 3 mission, which is expected to mark the first human visit to the moon since Apollo 17 in 1972.
