The marketing director of a US government agency faked a pregnancy to get paid maternity leave.
It was too big to be true. A woman, an American, has invented a whole life: a fake husband, a fake child, a fake belly. Robin actually lied to her superiors and co-workers, making them believe she was pregnant. All this for the sole purpose of getting seven months of paid maternity leave.
How did she make her lies believable?
It is enough just to wear a false belly in the office every day. She actually purchased this movie-used accessory to act out comedy for several months at her job, according to the Washington Post.
The lies didn’t stop there. forty-year-old also invented for herself … a husbandwhen she was alone. On May 1, 2021, she emailed her boss under the name of Brana Otmembebwa, her intended husband, to announce the birth of her child. In this letter, she clarifies that the pregnancy and childbirth were more difficult than expected and that the doctor ordered her to rest. How did the deception end?
It is taken by the one who thought he was taking. One day, this co-worker’s fake belly slipped off, which apparently planted a flea in her colleagues’ ear. Another clue could not be more suspicious: photographs that the magpie showed her colleagues upon returning from maternity leave. On them, her alleged child had a complexion that changed depending on the photos.
Once the fraud was exposed, the company quickly sued the fake mother. The case will be heard on April 4. Charged with four counts Robin still faces 25 years in prison.
