Actress Sienna Miller has spoken about the “judgment” she faced when becoming a mother again at the age of 41 and the “misogynistic” narrative surrounding her 14-year age gap with her partner.

The American Woman star, who is expecting a baby girl with 27-year-old actor Oli Green, condemned the “double standards” surrounding the issue.

“I think that people are becoming comfortable with a way of life that has existed for many years that is very misogynistic and patriarchal,” Miller said on the Vogue podcast earlier this month.

“I'm the older woman in a relationship with a younger person or pregnant over 40 – and that's 'irresponsible' and 'the poor kid' – that's such a double standard and… I think that's so unquestioned in people's minds she says. “But it’s absurd.”

“I just find this verdict so one-sided and so sad,” Miller added.

She is already mother to 11-year-old Marlowe from a previous relationship with actor Tom Sturridge. Miller's second daughter and first with Green will be born early next year.

In an interview with British Vogue published on Wednesday, she described the fatigue of having to keep up with the discussion about her age.

“I would like to get to a point where I don't feel the need to make a joke about being older and having a baby,” she told the magazine.

Discussing the 14-year age difference between her and The Crown actor, Miller said she sees an “awareness of the dynamics that are now entering into relationships between men and women that we just didn't have 20 or 25 years ago.” .

“I feel like throughout my youth I dodged bullets and advances in a very delicate way so as not to offend anyone. The girls he grew up with are probably saying, “No, no, thanks.” “Move on,” she told Vogue, explaining that the differences between them stem from the fact that they grew up at different times.

Recalling how they met at a Halloween party, Miller said there was a kiss, but she quickly backed off at the thought of a relationship.

“And then he worked hard to convince me to go out for drinks with him,” Miller added. On one of her first dates in New York, she accompanied her friend and fellow actress Emily Blunt – an “unnecessary wingwoman,” Blunt recalls, according to the magazine.

For Miller, age is just a number. “I don’t think you can legislate on matters of the heart,” she added.
