2022 US WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP TRIALS
TUESDAY MORNING HEAT LEAVES
The United States International Team Trials, which will serve as selection meetings for this summer, including the World Championships in June, begin this morning in Greensboro, North Carolina. Day 1 includes preliminary races of the 200 Fly and the 100 Free. The women’s 800m free and men’s 1500m free will also be held as a timed final today, with the early heats swimming this afternoon before the top heats in the finals. The race begins at 9 a.m. Eastern Time.
Stanford freshman ReganSmith comes in as the top seeds in the women’s 200cc fly and her Olympic teammate Hali Flickinger is directly behind her, the seeded pair well ahead of the field. Cals Trenton Julian comes in as top seed in men’s 200 fly but Georgia studies Luca Urandothe third seed, in fact, holds the field’s fastest life best from high school.
A lot of Olympians highlight the women’s 100 Free, with Farrope Abbey, Torri Huske and Erica Brown holds the top three seeds. Florida pro Caeleb Dresselthe third fastest man of all time in the 100 free, holds the top seed in men.
women 200 fly

Top 8 Qualifiers:
There was a long delay before the third heat due to an apparent error in the timing system, but that didn’t shed the second seed Hali Flickinger, who rode to the Heat win in 2:07.75. Flickinger ended up as the best qualifier.
top seeds ReganSmith utilized a strong back half to win her run in 2:09.83. Smith qualified fourth overall after the heats.
Charlotte Hook of the TAC Titans, a high school grad and Stanford committer, won her run in 2:09.51 and qualified second overall.

Top 8 Qualifiers:
Cals Trenton Julian pulled off a massive stroke in the heats, cutting off almost four-tenths of his seed to take the first seed in 1:54.34. He swam away from his heat and held the last 50.
Louisville pro Zach Harting rode to victory in his heat and kept his second seed to qualify second in 1:55.83. Just behind him on his heat was touched by Georgia pro Chase Kalisz, who qualified third in 1:56.04.
Luca Urando, who started third, qualified fourth in 1:56.50. Urlando looked strong for the first 150km but a 32 second split saw him fade to 1’56, well below his personal best.
Cavalier Aquatics’ Thomas Heilman, 15, failed to qualify for the A Finals but broke a new lifetime best of 1:58.01 to qualify for the B Finals.
women 100 free
- World record: Sarah Sjostrom (SWE): 51.71
- American record: Simone Manuel (2019): 52.04
- US Open record: Simone Manuel (USA): 52.54
- Junior World Record: Penny Oleksiak (CAN): 52.70
Top 8 Qualifiers:
Florida-based pro Natalie Hinds put on an impressive 53.77 to propel the top seed into the finals. Hinds was a member of the Olympic team in the 4×100 m free relay last summer.
TAC Titans senior Claire Curzan bonded with her future Stanford teammate Torri Huske for second place in 54.16, while Louisville pro Mallory Comerford fell off a bit from her seed to qualify fourth in 54.18.
top seeds Farrope Abbey qualified 5th in 54.19 while the Tennessee pro Erica Brownwho represented the USA in that event at last summer’s Olympics, qualified 6th in 54.27.
men 100 free
