Premier League soccer player Tom Lockyer suffers cardiac arrest and collapses on field during game – OregonLive

Luton Town captain Tom Lockyer remained in hospital on Sunday after suffering a cardiac arrest and collapsing on the pitch during a match on Saturday.

The Premier League football match between Bournemouth and Luton Town was suspended following Lockyer's fall. The team said in a statement on Sunday that Lockyer “Tests and scans are still being carried out and the results are awaited before determining the next steps for his recovery.”

The 29-year-old Lockyer collapsed on the pitch in the 58th minute when the score was 1-1. Lockyer fell to the ground with no other player near him. The players immediately responded to seek medical attention as Luton manager Rod Edwards ran onto the pitch.

Lockyer was carried off the pitch on a stretcher to applause from fans. The game at Bournemouth's Vitality Field was ultimately abandoned due to the incident. Luton Town confirmed this in a statement on Saturday Lockyer suffered cardiac arrest but was “responsive” when he was taken off the field.

Lockyer suffered a cardiac arrest on the field for the second time in his career. Lockyer previously collapsed on the pitch as Luton won the play-off final against Coventry on May 27, a win that earned them promotion to the Premier League for the 2023/24 season.

Lockyer spent five days in hospital and underwent surgery to repair atrial fibrillation. Lockyer underwent numerous tests and scans before being cleared to return to play.
