Bridgetown, Dec 5 (Prensa Latina) President Miguel Díaz-Canel arrived in Barbados today for an official visit and attended the VIII CARICOM-Cuba Summit, part of a Caribbean tour that was held in St. Vincent and the Grenadines started.
Upon arrival at Grantley Adams International Airport in this capital, the Cuban President was greeted by Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley.
The Head of State will attend tomorrow’s VIII Caricom-Cuba Summit as part of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the largest island in the Antilles and the first four independent Caribbean states: Jamaica, Guyana, Barbados and Trinidad and Tobago.
Díaz-Canel began his trip last Saturday in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, holding talks with Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves, whom he thanked for his support for the resolution against the US blockade and for Cuba’s support during the most acute symptoms of the peak of the Covid -19 pandemic.
On this occasion, he reaffirmed the will to strengthen Cuba’s relations with the region, pointing to the numerous joint cooperation activities in the sectors of tourism, food production, human resources training, infrastructure and construction, health and medicine.
Before leaving, the Cuban head of state spoke with the Governor General of San Vicente, Susan Dougan, and visited the Parliament, where he recalled the legacy of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, whom he described as a guide on the path of solidarity with the Sister Territories of the Caribbean.
He also ratified accompanying Havana in the just demands of historic reparations for the damage of colonialism and slavery.
In this room organized in his honor, the Guest President affirmed that “we have only one way to meet these challenges effectively and satisfactorily: the unity and integration of peoples”.
